Dogs grow up fast: a one-year-old is roughly a 15-year-old teenager. After that, bigger dogs age faster than small ones.

The DNA formula
human age = 16 × ln(dog age) + 31
A 2020 University of California San Diego study compared DNA methylation in Labrador retrievers and people. It suggests dogs age very fast early on: a 2-year-old Lab is about 42 in human terms, while a 12-year-old is about 71.
Questions
Is one dog year really seven human years?
No. Dogs mature much faster in the first two years (about 24 human years by age 2), then age 4 to 7 human years per year depending on size.
Why do big dogs age faster?
Large and giant breeds have shorter lifespans and show age-related changes earlier than small breeds.
