Typing Speed Test
How fast do you type? Pick a time, start typing the words and get your WPM and accuracy the moment the clock runs out.
How the typing test works
Choose 15 seconds, 30 seconds, 1 minute or 2 minutes, then start typing the highlighted word. Press space after each word. The timer starts with your first key. Green words are right, red words had a mistake.
WPM (words per minute) counts every 5 correctly typed characters, including spaces, as one word. That's the standard used by typing tests and employers, so your score compares fairly. Words with a mistake don't count toward WPM. Accuracy is the share of characters you typed correctly.
What's a good typing speed?
| WPM | Level |
|---|---|
| Under 25 | Beginner |
| 25–40 | Average (most adults type about 40 WPM) |
| 40–60 | Above average, good for office work |
| 60–80 | Fast, professional typist level |
| 80+ | Very fast, top few percent |
How to type faster
Keep your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;), look at the screen instead of the keyboard, and go for accuracy first. Speed follows. Ten minutes of practice a day makes a visible difference within a couple of weeks.

Questions
What is a good WPM?
Around 40 WPM is average for adults. 60+ WPM is fast, and many office jobs ask for 40–50 WPM with high accuracy.
How is WPM calculated?
Every 5 correct characters, including spaces, count as one word. The total is divided by the test time in minutes.
Can I take the typing test on my phone?
Yes. Tap the box and type with your phone keyboard. Phone scores are usually lower than on a physical keyboard.
Does accuracy affect my WPM?
Yes. Words with a mistake don't count toward WPM, so accurate typing gives a higher score.
Is the 1-minute test long enough?
A 1-minute test is the standard. Use 2 minutes for a steadier score, or 15–30 seconds for a quick warm-up.
